The project EpiSEM action has developed a software framework to create a collaboration platform for the development and use of computer-based models in different (industry) domains. The collaboration platform uses an underlying ontology, which represents domain specific knowledge. This ontology an be replaced by other domain ontologies, which are represented in a RDF format.
For this platform, RDF and RDF Schema were chosen as languages for modelling the catalogue structure in ontologies. In the ontology, categories are represented through concepts, which are (in RDF(S)-terminology) classes. Attributes are defined for each concept, which represent the attributes for each of the instances. Each time an entry is created, this results in a new instance in the ontology.
The platform supports also the evolution of the ontology to alter the structure of the catalogue during run-time. More information can be found in:
